Vertical Load Carrying SystemPrecast concrete floors (8" thick) with 2.5" concrete topping supported by 8" thick reinforced hollow unit concrete masonry walls.
Lateral Force Resisting SystemDistributed 8" thick reinforced concrete block masonry shear walls in both directions. The blocks are hollow core, light weight with compressive strengths ranging from 1.5 to 3 ksi. The walls at the first 6 stories are solid grouted whereas those at the top 2 stories are grouted at every 48".
Foundation TypeContinuous concrete spread footings supporting the masonry walls; 4" thick concrete slab on grade.
RemarksThe building was designed according to the 1982 UBC (Seismic Zone 4).
