Vertical Load Carrying SystemConcrete slabs supported by steel and concrete beams, walls and columns. The dome is supported by concrete piers, steel beams and columns encased in concrete. The vertical loades are supported on 238 friction pendulum bearings.
Lateral Force Resisting SystemConcrete walls, piers and moment frame for the original building. Concrete walls and steel moment frame for the dome. Building was strengthened by adding concrete shear wallsto the east ends of the office wings, structural upgrade of the dome and four stair towers The building is isolated by 238 double-concave friction pendulum bearings and 3 seismic sliders.
Foundation TypeLarge grade beams tied with small grade beams support the isolators at office wings. Concrete mat foundations support the dome and 4 stair towers.
RemarksSeismic upgrade and rehabilitation is based on the 2001 California Building Code.
