Instrumentation1990. 16 accelerometers, on 4 levels in the building. 3 accelerometers at a reference free-field site.
 
Vertical Load Carrying SystemConcrete slab (2" to 4" thick) on steel deck with welded metal studs, supported by distributed steel frame. The building is divided into 2 structures (east and west structures) on a common base.
Lateral Force Resisting SystemEccentric braced steel frames (EBF) with welded moment connections. In the longitudinal direction the EBF's are on the perimeter. In the transverse direction the EBF's are at the ends and two rows of columns at the middle of the building.
Foundation TypeConcrete drilled piers (30"-42" diamter) under interior columns & grade beams. 5" concrete slab on grade.
RemarksThe building was designed in accordance with the 1976 UBC as modified by Title 17 (now Title 24) of the California Administrative Code. The upper floors are "H" shaped in plan with a joint at the center separating the east and west structures. SMIP instrumented the east structure only.
