Vertical Load Carrying System | Concrete slabs over metal decks on 1st, 2nd floor, and roof (9",6" & 4" overall thickness respectively) supported by steel beams (steel trusses at roof level) and steel columns on elastomeric bearings. |
Lateral Force Resisting System | Steel braced frames (chevron) and steel moment resisting frames at the perimeter. All columns are supported by laminated steel and rubber isolators. Perimeter isolators have 7.5" diam. lead core. 18" clearance is around the perimeter to allow building seismic movement. |
Foundation Type | 24" diam. Drilled cast-in-place concrete piles. 49 four-pile groups (28' long, 150 kips capacity per pile) and 5 five-pile groups (37' long, 250 kips capacity per pile). |
Remarks | The structure has been designed in compliance with the Uniform Building Edition. The seismic design was performed by dynamic analysis with base isolation system (seismic zone 4). Viscous dampers were added after the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. |
